After seven years of bringing light and love to people facing significant health challenges in Metro Vancouver, we are announcing the wind-up and dissolution of The Lipstick Project.
It’s true! After seven beautiful years, we have come to the very bittersweet decision to wind-up and dissolve The Lipstick Project.
When we set out on this journey in 2012, our goal was to not only provide services but also to add value to the healthcare system through a unique and creative approach to care. We were joined by hundreds of people -- volunteers, donors, partners, and cheerleaders.
Together over the years, over 100 volunteers participated in the provision of over 3,000 services to clients at 10 facilities. These services were more than hair cuts, manicures or massages, they were delicate moments of life that we were privileged to be a part of. It was our honour to infuse those services with moments of compassion, joy and love.
From getting a group of teen girls at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice ready to go to a pop concert with facials, make-up and nails, to being a steady and constant presence for residents at Vancouver Hospice, and so much more, our volunteers have gone above and beyond to serve people in the Lower Mainland who are facing significant health challenges.
The decision to wind-up and dissolve TLP was a difficult one. The model of TLP’s services, relying entirely on volunteers, has proven to be very challenging to maintain, particularly as the organization expanded. Volunteer recruitment and retention has also become increasingly difficult over the past few years as we have seen much turnover and low attendance rates. Combined with the decreasing personal capacity of the Leadership Team, we are in a position where we can confidently say that the best way to carry forward this spirit of creative, compassionate care is to work with the organizations at which we currently provide services.
We are proud that many of our volunteers will carry TLP’s spirit and mission forward by continuing to provide their services - signing on to become volunteers with our partner organizations.
We have so much gratitude to our dedicated volunteers, passionate partners, and generous donors. It has been an honour and a privilege for us to build TLP with your enthusiasm and support. We hope that your participation in this community has been just as inspiring and meaningful as it has been for us.
If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to be in touch with us.
Thank you so much for being on this journey with us.
